Recently local army units visited West End School. It was a lovely sunny day and Room 10 had an opportunity to meet the soldiers throughout the day. They also managed to explore some armored vehicles. They asked some great questions and took full opportunity of such a unique learning experience.

Marble Runs and Straw Boats
This term has seen Room 10 really show how they can work together to produce some pretty clever designs. A few weeks ago they designed their own marble runs and this week saw some pretty impressive straw boats. Soon we will see if they float.

Our Water
The kids have been getting stuck in learning about our local river and ways to keep it clean and healthy.
We managed to get down to the Manawatu River to learn about water testing then we had a guest speaker from Horizons. We talked about ways we can keep sediment and pollution out of our streams and rivers.

Welcome to Term Two!
Kia Ora.
My name is Sean Koch and it is a pleasure to introduce myself as the new face in Room 10. I am looking forward to getting stuck into Term 2 and meeting you and your tamariki. A little about myself. I'm 35 and I was born in Auckland but grew up in Australia. I did my teacher training in Palmerston North and have recently moved back into the area after teaching in Porirua last year. I also have experience in teaching English overseas, being based in China for several years.
I come from a mixed background with my family roots originating from around the globe (English, Irish, German and Maori). I love travel and was an enthusiastic geography and history student at school. I am also passionate about the promotion of tikanga Maori and Te Reo in schools and will look to build on the foundations already in place in Room 10.
Finally I love sport, having played tennis, cricket and football as a kid as well as being not to bad at long distance running. I still like to run trail runs and long distance events.
I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know your backgrounds and interests, feel free to pop in for a chat.
nga mihi
Sean Koch.

Mr Moses and his Bee’s
On Wednesday Sarah’s father came into our class with his bees. Everyone was excited. He showed us the bees and how they make their nest.
Mr Moses then cut a slice out of the bees frame, it was
full of honey. We all got a piece to eat.
It was so sweet and yummy.
