Wednesday

I woke up at 4:00am and went back to bed for 2 more hours.
I got ready for camp/school by 7:30am. At 8:15 me, my mother and my sister left for school.
8:30am I get to school (finally).

I don’t know time we got on the bus and left the camp but I saw Janelle waving to me when we went on the bus to go to camp.
Me, James, Jack and Brooke sat together and had a very interesting conversation on the way there.

The conversation was about our fears and dreams.
We also went on a trip down memory lane. Some of it was good but others, not so good.

When we got to camp we got our bags and put them into our cabins and got our lunch box and sat down and had our morning tea.

When we were finished having our morning tea we went to put our lunch box away and got our beds ready.
We went back outside the main hall.

The parents their activity groups together and did an activity together.
My group went to the bush first.
The activity we did was called shape search.
In shape search you had to find shapes nature made.
When we were in the bush it started to rain.
Luckily it wasn’t very hard until we got back to camp.
We were really lucky.
We had to draw the shapes we saw in the bush.

When we were finished me, Charlie and George played with the dominos.
Then the teacher told us to pack up and go to our cabin’s to get our lunch and sit down and have our lunch.

After we’ve had our lunch we sat down and talked to people quietly.
After lunch both classes went on a bush walk. By the time we got back it was afternoon tea time.

So Mr Davis told us to get a cup from our cabin and come back.
When we came back there was so much good food there.
After afternoon tea we did another bush walk. By the time we got back tea was ready. Tea was a Barbecue. I had sausages, coleslaw, Potato, Potato Salad and pork.

After tea we washed and rinsed our plate, cup, knife and fork. We took them back to our cabin and brought back with us a beanie, a torch, and rain coat. We sat down in our activity groups when we got back.

Then we went to see the glow worms. We went up a no exit street. But I saw a pathway through 2 bushes.
The pathway ended and there was a stream with rocks in It.
We had to test our parkour skills there!
Some glow worms were green, some were blue.
But most were blue.
Some people were shining their torches at the glow worms.
We all walked back to camp.

Mr Davis told us “Go get a cup and come back to the main hall. We are going to have supper”
Supper was left over’s from afternoon tea.

After supper the boys went to get changed, brush their teeth and go to bed.
When I finished I went to my cabin and tried to go to sleep but Mr Davis opened the door and said “You boys ready for bed?” we said “Yes.” Mr Davis replied “I’ll come back in 1 minute to turn the lights off.”

I fell asleep by the time he got back.

Camp Rangi Woods
by Mrs Zambazos

On Wednesday 16th of November I took all of my belongings and put them on the bus. We left school at about 9.30 am and got to Camp Rangi Woods at about 10.30am.

At Camp Rangi Woods we unloaded the bus, took our gear to our cabins and then had our morning tea.

After morning tea we went to our cabins and set our beds up. I was in the Leaders Hut. I unrolled my sleeping bag and put it on my bunk bed. I put my pillow on my bed and then went and checked the toilets out!

By the time I had set my cabin up it started to pour with rain so I found my raincoat and herded everybody inside to the main hall. Mr Davis and I gave the camp books out and sent everyone back to their cabins to fill in the activity group’s success criteria and cabin rules

Here are some examples
Activity Groups
|We will be successful in our activity groups by
- listening to the parents
- following the rules
- sticking together

Cabin Rules
- There will be no fights
- Keep the noise level down
- Keep the cabin clean
- Let others sleep
- We will be kind to each other
- We will have fun

After we had worked out our cabin rules we came back to the main hall for our lunch.

After we had our lunch it was time to start our first lot of activities.

It really poured down with rain while we did these activities but we were protected a lot from the rain by the bush.
After we did these activities it was time for afternoon tea. We had some really yummy home baking.

We then went for a walk with Mr Davis leading at the front. I was at the back, we walked up the gravel track to the main entrance and Mr Davis talked to us about walking on the road at night. We sent two of the Dads off to check out the glow worm track.

We walked back to the new playground. We watched a tractor knock a big dead tree over and then we got to play in the playground for a little bit. We then walked back through the bush, the track was quite muddy.

We stopped at the chapel – this is where there is a huge rimu tree in a small clearing with seats – we looked up into the trees and listened to the sounds of the bush. By this stage the dads had caught back up with us and told Mr Davis that the glow worm track was looking good.
Here is the Wood Pigeon that I saw on camp

When we got back to camp we went and did some of our Camp Book while the parents got our tea ready.

We had sausages, potato salad and lettuce salad.

After we ate this we had ice creams in a cone which we ate outside. It was really yummy.

We then went and got our torches, our rain coats and our shoes on, we were going off to see the glow worms.

It was a long walk to the Glow Worms. We had to walk on the road first, we had a ute at the front and a ute at the back. We used our torches to help us see the way. Going over the bridge in the dark was really strange, you could hear the water rushing beneath you, but you couldn’t see it.

We had to walk down a bush track to get to the glow worms. We had to walk through a small creek, over rocks and stones, over logs. It was hard work by torch light, but the parents helped us all.

We could see glow worms on the side of the creek bank all the way to the big cave like area where there was thousands of glow worms, it was amazing. Think of all that light coming from one small insects back side!!!!

It was even darker walking back, we really needed our torches and the track seemed to go on forever. Finally we got back to camp, we had our supper and then it was time for bed.

Everyone was really excited and that made Mr Davis and Mrs Zambazos’s job off getting everyone off to sleep harder.,

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Check out Mrs Zambazos's awesome sunflower poem using Tagul to present it.
Sunflowers
Swaying in the gentle breeze like golden globes of honey
Their warm gold faces look to the sun
Their leaves glisten with early morning dew
Bees hum as they visit the flowers
Their stunning beauty lights up the garden.

In Room 10 and 11 during our maths time we maths rotations.
Maths rotations are when we do different activities doing maths.

The activities we do are

: Spatial Awareness
This activity is fun because you get to do lots of activities using the blocks and following instructions from the cards. Jayden CB

: Logic Games
These are strategy games where you have to follow the instructions carefully. Cat and Mice is one of the games I like to play. Naomi

: Card and Dice Games
Card and dice games are like games where you use cards or dice games, these games help us get quicker and faster at recalling maths facts. Charlie

: Logic Puzzles
Logic Puzzles are cool you can a lot of different things, it makes your brain work hard. Cefiro

: Sunshine on Line
Sunshine Online is on the computer and it is one of our favourite activities, there are different activities you can do that are all about maths. Ollie

: Basic Facts

For basic facts there is a container full of different basic fact sheets and we choose one to do and we figure out the answers. When we finish one we get another one. When we pack up we glue them into our books. Tina

: Addition and Subtraction Games
Addition and subtraction games make your brain think and jog your memory. They help us get quicker at plus and takeaways. Ryan

: Measurement Activities (That’s our strand topic for Term 1)
For measurement activities we practice using different things to measure with. Christina

Doing the maths rotations is a fun way to practice our maths skills and make choices about who we would like to work with.
